It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we announce the peaceful passing of Dan Gyetvai on June 19, 2025, at his home in London, Ontario. A devoted fiancé, loving father, cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, Dan touched countless lives with his warmth, athleticism, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
A Life Rooted in Strength and Kindness
Born on August 3, 1978, Dan lived a remarkable life that balanced athletic achievement, professional excellence, and profound personal connections. His kindness, strength of character, and easy-going humour made him someone you never forgot once you met him.
Dan is survived by his beloved fiancé, Jill Disik, and his two beautiful daughters, Kja and Cali, whom he shared with Nissa Boulanger. He also leaves behind his loving mother, Angie, and siblings Kristen (Matt) and Mike (Sandra). Dan was a proud uncle to Eddy, Samantha, Angela, Patrick, and Charlotte, and will also be deeply missed by many cousins, friends, and extended family.
He is predeceased by his father, Edward Gyetvai, and his brother, Steven Gyetvai, whom he now joins in eternal peace.
A Passionate Athlete and Accomplished Engineer
Dan’s athleticism and determination were evident from a young age. A mechanical engineer by profession, he was also a passionate and talented athlete. He played rugby for the Windsor Rogues Rugby Club and proudly represented Team Canada Rugby League.
While studying at the University of Windsor, Dan was a standout player on the Lancers football team, earning recognition as an All-Canadian football team member—not once, but twice. His impressive collegiate football career paved the way to the Canadian Football League, where he played professionally for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
After retiring from professional sports, Dan redirected his passion toward family and farming, working alongside his father. He never left the game entirely, remaining an active part of the football community as a referee, helping nurture the sport he loved.
A Dedicated Professional and Creative Spirit
Dan’s work ethic carried over into his professional life. He held positions at Cami Automotive and Labatt’s, before joining Western University, where he served as a respected manager in the Facility Management department. He brought the same integrity and commitment to his professional work that he did to his personal life.
Outside of work, Dan found joy in the simple things: woodworking, fitness, cooking, and most recently, kickboxing. Whether he was preparing a homemade meal or crafting something from wood, Dan approached life with creativity and dedication.
A Legacy of Love, Laughter, and Loyalty
Those who knew Dan will always remember his quick wit, warm smile, and big heart. His humour could light up a room, and his loyalty to loved ones never wavered. He was the kind of person you could always count on—whether as a teammate, a friend, or a family man.
Dan’s memory will live on in the lives of those he inspired, laughed with, and loved. His impact will be felt for generations through the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he so freely gave.
